ACPHS Student Ambassador Blog

Hey guys!

I hope everyone is doing well. This week has been a good week so far! We had our first anatomy and physiology test on Monday and it went pretty well. I was really excited for this week because practice for our brand new track & field club began. We are meeting Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. I am really excited to get this club moving because tack & field was the main sport I played in high school. This is just another club added to our expanding group. It is exciting being able to use our new track on the newly renovated soccer field!

Have a great week everyone!

Hey guys!

I hope everyone had a great long weekend! I sure did. I was able to go home for a couple days and see my family. Saturday we had a very successful open house! I enjoyed my time giving a tour to the two families I was able to talk with. This week is pretty uneventful for the Bachelor’s Students but our fellow PharmD students have two tests in psychology and orgnaic chemistry so good luck to them! Tomorrow night I will be calling a number of accepted students again to congratulate them along with my fellow student ambassadors. Everyone look out for your phone calls!

Hey everyone

It’s safe to say that the semester is back into full swing.  I had my first physics test on Thursday, and have been studying hard for the first Organic Chemistry test coming up on Wednesday.  On a lighter note, the Phi Delta Chi blood drive was a huge success this past week! On Valentine’s Day, the professional pharmacy fraternity held it’s bi-annual blood drive to sponsor the Red Cross.  They had a nice turn out with nearly 100 donors, including 16 first time donors.  It’s estimated that the 69 units of blood collected could save up to 207 lives!

Keeping up with the basketball news, both the men’s and women’s teams qualified for the 2013 USCAA National tournament, marking the first time that either team will have the chance to compete for the national championship!  Seeding for the tournament will be released later this week.

I hope to see a lot of you on campus this weekend for the Open House!

-Dan

Hey guys!

It’s finally that time of the semester for me, my first test. This week has been full of long nights studying away for my physics test coming up on Thursday. Hopefully it goes well. Afterwards, me and my friends are going out for Valentine’s Day! We are taking advantage of the school’s five dollar movie tickets they have for sale every Thursday and Friday in our student center. This is one of the many discount tickets we have.

I hope everyone is enjoying their weeks! I’m looking forward to the open house this Saturday!

Hey everybody

It’s been another good week here at ACPHS!  This past week, our RA hosted a super bowl party for the 8th floor of Notre Dame (second year housing building).  Each RA hosts several events each semester for their residents and/ or the entire building.  Of course we had pizza and wings to watch the game with, but we also had some contests.  We had a score guessing contest for halftime and the final score.  The prizes for the closest were $10 gift cards to the Recovery Room Sports Grill.  Also, everybody wore some sort of football attire and the best dressed also won a gift card.  We all had a lot of fun watching the game together as the 49ers comeback fell short against the Ravens.

As far as school goes, it seems as though everyone has their first test next week.  For me, it is a physics exam on Thursday.  We thought we would be stuck inside studying today because of winter storm Nemo, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as predicted.  Last night and this morning there were a lot of students outside playing snow football and making snowmen.  Some people even cross country skied around campus!  Spending some time outside and playing indoors with the tennis club today was a great break from schoolwork.

Stay warm and have a good rest of the weekend!

-Dan

Hey, it’s Alex, I hope everyone had a nice week! Here in Albany everyone is getting ready for winter storm Nemo but we will have to wait and see if it is going to be as bad as everyone is saying it will be.

This week our Women’s Basketball team played against Sage and North Country Community College.  One of my friends goes to Sage and is their assistant coach.  We were on the same basketball team since third grade so it was weird to be on opposite benches.  We pulled out the win but it was a really good game.  After our win yesterday we went to 15-3 on the season.  We’re supposed to have 2 more games this weekend but that all depends on the weather because the team tomorrow is supposed to be coming from New Hampshire.

If we do get a ton of snow I will probably spend my weekend watching college basketball and studying.  I have my first test of the semester next week which will ensure that I’m really back into the swing of things.

I hope you all stay safe and warm if you’re going to get the snow storm!

Hey guys!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I certainly did with all the activities available to us. Sunday our school ski/snowboard club had a trip to Whiteface Mountain for a discounted price and the bus ride was included. They enjoyed a day full of powder and wonderful riding just a short ride north in Lake Placid. This happened to be one of the mountains I usually go skiing at with my friends from home!

Friday night students were able to enjoy a pre-released showing of the newest Twilight movie in our school’s Student Center. This is available most Friday nights and usually the more popular new releases are being shown. This is a great opportunity to grab a couple friends, make some popcorn, and enjoy a movie on the big screen in the lecture hall.

For all of you who applied to the school, watch out for your acceptence letters in the mail. We, student ambassadors, have already began the telecounseling nights and have had some great phone converstaions with perspective new students! I for one had some great conversations with some of our Bachelor’s students when I called to congratulate them! They all seemed very excited and said they looked forward to our upcoming Accepted Students Days!

Hey Guys!

I hope everyone had another good week of school and I’m sure you’re all counting down the days to February break.  At school everyone is finally getting back into the swing of things.  The majority of my classes this semester are helping to prepare me to take the boards.  I have a law class, pharmacy administration, heath care and human values which focuses on ethical issues, a skills lab that helps me to review compounding and then a class that focuses on patient cases.

This week I went to the UNC and Boston College basketball game at Boston College.  It was the first time that I got to see the Tar Heels play and it was awesome.  I think that there were more Tar Heel fans there than Boston College fans.  I’ve also been busy with the girls basketball team. We have a big game on Saturday against St. Joe’s. Last season they beat us during the regular season and we beat then in the conference championship so I’m sure it will be a good one.

Best of luck to everyone that submitted their regular decision applications!!

Hey Everyone!

It’s only the end of the second week of classes, but time is already flying by.  All the students have been busy meeting their new professors and getting used to their schedules.  As a second year BS of pharmaceutical sciences student, I’m taking Organic Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy and Physiology, and Statistics this semester.  I’m especially enjoying the small size of my physics class with only about 10 students; it’s a great way to to get to know my instructor and classmates.  (One of the benefits of being a bachelor’s student at ACPHS!)

Even though we all have studying to do during the week, there’s definitely enough time for fun too.  I’ve had enough time to get to the gym every day this week, catch up with old friends after winter break, and go to the basketball game tonight.  The men’s team pullled off a good win 85-72 and Casey Redfern scored his 1,000th point in a ACPHS uniform.  With the win, the team improved to 12-3.  The women’s team is also 12-3 on the season, so there has been a lot of excitement as both teams are ranked very highly in their league’s.

I hope everyone is doing well being back at school and I’ll talk to you soon.

-Dan

Hey Guys!

The first week of classes are finished and we are working on our second week of the second semester. The past week has been full of adjusting to new classes, figuring out a new time management schedule, and catching up with friends I haven’t seen in a month and a half (which was way too long without my second family!). One of my friends was telling me about her trip to Belize over break which she took with the college. This trip was offered after taking the class on Belize the first semester of this year. While there students were able to run medical clinics and recieve hours towards the required amount needed for PA and medical school they want to attend. This is a great opportunity for Bachelor’s stduents here at ACPHS. The fourth year Bachelor’s students in the Health and Human Sciences program were able to recieve IPPE in Patient Assessment credit. This semester there is a class and a trip to Senegal offered where students can experience the cultures, customs, and healthcare in Senegal. These are just a couple of the many opportunities students at ACPHS have to travel and experience healthcare in a new culture. It is a great opportunity!

I hope everyone is having a good beginning to the new year!

Hey Everyone!

I hope everyone had a great holiday break.  I spent a week of quality time with my family before I headed back to Albany and then was on my way to Costa Rica for a two week class down there.  I had an unforgettable experience while I was down there.  Our first hotel was right in the rain forest so we were able to see amazing wild life.  We staying in each location for two night before packing up our backpacks and heading to a different city, each presenting us with a new experience.  While we were there, I had the opportunity to go zip lining, hike up volcanoes, find natural hot springs and go surfing.  It was an amazing experience and I would love to go back sometime in the future.

School started for us on Monday but I have been back in Albany since last Tuesday because we had a basketball game on Friday.  The girls had double sessions last week but now that school has started again we’re back to a normal practice schedule. We have been very busy because we pretty much have a game every other day.  The girls have been playing really well and have a record of 10-2 this far.

I hope that all of the New York State high school students did well on their regents! Talk to you all again soon.

Alex

Hey Guys!

It’s Alex again.  I’m currently two thirds done with finals week, and it sure is flying by.  On Monday I had my genitourinary final and today I had my neuro final.  I now have a little break until my last final (pharmacoeconomics) on Thursday morning.  I can’t wait to be home with my friends and family on Friday.  Once I get home I’ve already made some plans to finish up some Christmas shopping and then have our annual country club Christmas party on Saturday.  Also while I’m home, I’m hoping to be able to work because I will be leaving for Costa Rica the day after Christmas.  I can’t wait to start our journey to Costa Rica! It is a three credit course through school where we get the opportunity to travel all over Costa Rica and experience a different way of life that we are used to.  I will keep you updated while I’m there for two weeks if I have access to the internet.  I hope everyone has a great holiday season!

Alex

Hey Everyone!

It’s the Thursday before finals week so things are a little crazy around school but to help us deal with our stress our school has activities for “stress relief week.”  Some of these activities include a fondue fountain, therapy dogs and today there were massages in the top floor of the student center.  Next week I have a final on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday so I will have a pretty busy weekend studying and preparing for my exams.  It’s hard to believe that after Thursday I will be on my way to my last semester of classes at ACPHS!

I hope everyone is having a great school year and is as excited as I am for the holiday season!!

Alex

Hey!

I can’t believe this semester is coming to an end. It just flew by so quickly. Students are starting to prepare for finals that are approaching. Try to take a break from studying and attend the stress relief events this week. SGA brought a chocolate fountain and snacks on Monday and therapy dogs on Tuesday. The events had a great turnout and received positive feedbacks from those who attended.  Tomorrow’s event is scheduled for massage sessions. This is a great way to relax and not overwhelm yourselves before finals week.

Well, good luck with finals and have a great and warm holiday break!

-Janey

Hey all!

Hope everyones break went well!

Yesterday night was the Snowball and it had a great turnout. It was a fun event where there was a lot of music and dancing. Everyone dressed formal and looked fantastic! It was also a great way to show support to the school and donate to the charity.

Now that the semester is coming to an end, finals are approaching in about a week or so. Finals are the most stressful time of the semester and I hope everyone is getting prepared for it. Good luck to everyone and check back for more updates!

-Janey
