Within these next two weeks, the second years will be very busy with their schoolwork! In addition to an Organic Chemistry exam next week, there is also a formal lab report for Organic Chemistry lab, an essay and a group presentation for Humanities, and lots of Physics homework to work on. Not only is there a lot of schoolwork to stay on top of, but there are lots of club and organization meetings. Check the weekly e-mail with all the activities on campus and get involved!
For those who came to the open house, they probably saw a lot of pink! That’s because the open house was the same day as the Making Strides walk for Breast Cancer! It was for a great cause and we had a great turn out! Thank you for all those that came and participated !
Hi everyone! As a student ambassador on campus, I was able to help with the ACPHS open house! We had a very successful day with wonderful weather! I hope everyone who came had fun.
The fall weather has been so nice, but do not let that make you fall behind in your classes! If you are looking for extra help in your classes or want to learn some helpful studying strategies, check out the ACPHS Peer Tutoring program. Go to http://albany.askonline.net/ and schedule an individual appointment with a tutor or find some drop-in hours that work for you. In addition, there are group tutoring sessions. Feel free to bring your friends to tutoring and any questions you have! Also, like the ACPHS Peer Tutors page on Facebook to learn more about the ACPHS Tutoring Program (https://www.facebook.com/acphspeertutors?hc_location=stream)!
First semester is about half way through. It has gone by really fast and I cannot believe how fast P1 year is going. The P1s are very busy with a full course load with Pathophysiology, Pharmaceutics, Biochemistry, Pharmacy Skills Lab, Immunology, Integrated Problem Solving Workshop, and Foundations of Pharmacy. Despite all the work and studying, we are having a great semester! There are lots of fun events to take a break from classes. One event is the 1st Annual Strongman Competition presented by the fifth year class. Each class year will have representatives competing to see which class is the strongest. It should be fun to watch! Another event is a bus trip to Boston, MA. It is a wonderful opportunity to travel off campus and explore Boston! Good luck to all as the semester continues!
As part of one of the resident assistant’s building wide programs, we each received a voucher for Bowman’s Orchard! We each picked a great amount of apples, and afterwards there was a contest to see who can make the best dessert using those apples!! We won first place and received gift cards! It was a lot of fun!
The Albany campus is looking great with flowers and this beautiful weather! We are getting ready for our Fall break and the second half of the semester!
Happy American Pharmacists Month! This month is a month to celebrate the career of pharmacy. ACPHS is taking part in the celebrations with many activities. The student center has been decorated with balloons, streamers, and banners. To kick off the month there was free breakfast for the campus and the big activity is the trip to NYC. Tomorrow, October 3, 2013, over 90 students are heading to the Today Show in NYC to celebrate American Pharmacists Month! Make sure to watch for them. There will be continued events for the rest of this special month!
Happy American Pharmacists Month and “know your medicine, know your pharmacist!”
This weekend is family weekend! To kick off family weekend is White Coat Ceremony. This ceremony is the cloaking ceremony of P1 students to welcome them into the professional years of the pharmacy program. All the P1 students are very excited!
It’s been almost a month of classes and I have already learned so much! As being a 5th year student, my class curriculum consists of neuro/psych, nephrology, pharmacoeconomics, and advanced OTC as my elective! I have already experienced two summers of introduction rotations at a hospital and pharmacy and they were a phenomenal experience! Everyone looks at you as a health professional and it’s a great feeling. My rotations have honestly motivated me even more to learn as much as I can so I can be the best pharmacist when I graduate. So far, my teachers have been terrific and I’ve learned so much about different drugs, their mechanisms of action, how the body reacts to medications, etc. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the semester has to offer!
Health and Wellness Expo
The semester is off to a running start! There are many events going on here on campus. A large event that we are preparing for is the 2nd Annual Health & Wellness Expo. Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is partnering with MVP Health Care to plan a wonderful event. This great event will be held Saturday September 28, 2013 from 10 am until 3 pm.
The day is going to filled with tons of fun and educational events. It will be kicked off by the 2nd Annual Mario Zeolla ‘97 5K walk/run and include events such as medication take back, flu shots, and zumba.
Come by the event to see all the wonderful events and learn some new information!
ACPHS Survival Guide!
It’s Ahmad! It’s my last year here at ACPHS as for I am a 5th year =( But I want to make this year last and get the most out of it! The year has started out amazing. I had a great time during RA training and I have already met some new great people. Here is a video for all the incoming freshmen my fellow RA staff and I made to help them survive their first year on campus! Enjoy!
ACPHS is always updating things on campus! This past summer the organic chemistry lab and the pharmacy skills lab were updated. They look great! One other thing that was updated was the College’s website. Check it out!
It’s Christina! I am officially a P1 student. The semester is off to a great start so far, with classes in Immunology, Pharmaceutics, Biochemistry, Pathophysiology, Foundations of Pharmacy, Integrated Problem Solving Workshop, and Pharmacy Skills Lab. It will be a busy semester, but I am excited!
Before the semester gets going there are some fun activities going on! There is a hypnotist, BINGO, soccer tailgate, relaxation series, international movies, welcome events, and a viewing of the Hangover III! It will be a fun way to kick off the semester!
Good luck to all students on campus! Hopefully it will be a great semester!
